So I decided to finally put FEDORA 20 on my laptop the other day, which was running RHEL. The first task is to create a bootable USB.
This was non trivial (for me, at least).
I tried the linux directions (using dd), but then found that, even after I found the right BIOS setting to boot from USB, it NEVER ACTUALLY used by USB to boot. Why?
Well, it turns out that IF PARTITIONS ARE MESSED UP ON YOUR USB DRIVE, THE BOOTLOADER WILL SILENTLY REJECT IT !
So.......... To get Fedora up and running - I decided to try building the exact same disk image following the MAC directions on the fedora site.........
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_create_and_use_Live_USB
.................
That totally worked ! One quick note: Before I ran it - I completeley erased the thumb drive.
From there - Fedora installed automagically and worked beautifully.
